What is 'Short Covering'
Short covering is buying back borrowed securities in order to close an open short position. It refers to the purchase of the exact same security that was initially sold short, since the short-sale process involved borrowing the security and selling it in the market. For example, assume you sold short 100 shares of XYZ at 100 Rs per share, based on your view that the shares were headed lower. When XYZ declines to 90 or 80 Rupee, you buy back 100 shares of XYZ in the market to cover your short position (and pocket a gross profit of 200 Rupee from your short trade). This process is known as short covering.

Nifty Technical Outlook
Nifty is expected to open on gap down note and likely to witness volatile session during the day. Technically, Nifty is facing a strong resistance  at higher levels due to which we witness a sharp correction from 10400 level towards almost 10140 levels in the span of 3-4 trading session. Going ahead 10090-10040 levels may act as a strong support levels. Overall view is cautious stay light with position.
Action: Nifty has an immediate support at 10100 and on a decisive close below expect fall to 10070/10040 levels
